Parts In Suite 2018

How did the Boston Ballet bust open their Spring 2018 Program? How about with an intense trifecta of modern dancing. On Friday, March 9th, our beloved Boston Ballet premiered the stunning  Parts In Suite 2018. For those of you who assume the ballet is comprised of stiff costumes and arabesques, this program will contradict those preconceptions and open your eyes to the stunning beauty of modern dance.

The program exposes audiences to three of today’s most influential choreographers; resident choreographer Jorma Elo, New York City Ballet Resident Choreographer Justin Peck, and world-renowned choreographer William Forsythe.

The evening began with Elo’s Bach Cello Suites. Cellist Sergey Antonov provided live musical accompaniment for the performance.

The stage sharing between musicians and dancers continued with In Creases, the first of Peck’s work ever performed by Boston Ballet. Pianos set the backdrop for a lesson in human movement, rhythm, and shapes.

The title performance by William Forsythe’s Pas/Parts, provided the conclusion for the program. Boston Ballet has the honor of being the second company in the country to premiere this performance and it marks the second year in a five-year partnership with the genius choreographer.

Forsythe set the brilliant piece to an electronic score, with equally brilliant varied sections of eloquent movements. The piece perfectly punctuated an evening that celebrates the evolution of ballet.

Ballet attendee Ellen Slaby agreed, “Opening night for the Boston Ballet’s 2018 spring season was breathtaking. William Forsythe, Justin Peck, and Jorma Elo are a dream team of modern choreographers. Beautiful dancing, set to minimal sets and stunning music (particularly the cello concerto in act 1), is a performance that shouldn’t be missed!”
