TASTING NOTES – Golden hued and full-bodied, with melon and spicy baked apple aromas. Layered, with mineral notes enhanced by honeycomb and caramel flavors from lees contact. This wine is a great example of the harmonious balance which can be achieved between fruit and delicate oak/vanilla flavors, as they combine to form complex, soft flavors with sufficient body to enhance even spicy and full flavored meals.

TALES FROM A TASTING

From bubbly to sweet, and then nice and dry, the acidity of the Chenin Blanc grape allows winemakers to play around and mold the grape into their desired wine. This Wine Wednesday we’re exploring an old vine Chenin Blanc wine from South Africa by Ken Forrester Vineyards.

If you think of South African wines, you have to consider Chenin Blanc. Over 50% of the Chenin Blanc vines growing out of our good Earth grow out of South Africa. Originally, a French grape, Chenin Blanc has proven to be very versatile not only in where it can, but the type of wine it becomes.

Ken Forrester Vineyards has created a ripe and full Chenin Blanc that I thoroughly enjoyed! For me, this fruity yet creamy wine was delectable- like an apricot crumble, yet not to sweet. It rolled onto my palate with a wonderful smoothness cut slightly by a bit of stone.

With what did I serve the Chenin Blanc? How about Chinese food and lots of it!!! Believe it or not, this pairing could not have been more perfect!!!
