Brrrr! There’s definitely a chill in the air! The drop in temperature and increase in wind chill have blown the closet door wide open for sweater season.
This fall, it’s all about the heavily detailed sweater. From fringe to fur, to cut outs and textured knits, sweaters are taking fashion seriously this fall. Just look at the above pictured delicate See By Chloe sweater; the flowing cuffs and cutouts throughout the knit are just one example of the dedication designers are putting into sweaters this year.
To keep your fashion appetite whet, we’re sharing just a few examples of our favorite sweaters this season.
FRINGE
LINE - Demsey Fringe Sweater
We have fringe on our jackets, boots, and purses, why the hell not knit some into a sweater? We found this lovely ivory knit on Intermixonline.com. While it isn’t exactly a bargain, it might be a staple piece worth the splurge. We think it goes with jeans, pencil skirts, and suede or leather leggings. This is one of those pieces that will make multiple outfits and is probably worth opening the piggy bank.
CUT OUT BACK
DION LEE - Split Back
The cut out is another trend that has traversed across different articles of clothing. There’s nothing better than a sexy sweater, and the cut out creates just the right amount of allure within our cold-weather favorite. Dion Lee may be a bit pricey, but this season they have an entire collection dedicated to the cut-out back. We love this cashmere one. Because if there’s anything that adds to the sex appeal of an open back it’s the soft contrast of cashmere against the skin.
OFF-THE-SHOULDER
A.L.C Monica Off-The-Shoulder Sweater
The off-the-shoulder trend is wrapping it’s arms around every fashionista. We’re pretty confident it will be around through the spring. This A.L.C. sweater, with ballet sleeves is classic and simple, while still paying homage to the trend. Just like the cut-out, an off-the-shoulder silhouette adds just the right amount of sex appeal. We love how the large cowl neckline perfectly frames the shoulders and collarbone.
CABLE AND CONTRASTING KNITS
Stella McCartney - Wool and Mohair-blend sweater
Texture and opulence go hand-in-hand. Thick weaves and contrasting materials create an eye-catching look that is not only rich, but also incredibly cozy! Designer Stella McCartney knocks it out of the park with this lovely grey cable knit.
BELL SLEEVE
Lucienna Pullover
The bell definitely tolls for the sweater this season. Bell sleeves have been on the scene for about a year now, and we’re pretty damn pleased with the trend. There’s something about wearing one of the cozy flowing sweater that makes us feel regal. We found this hug-inducing example, in one of this season’s hottest hues, at anthropologie.
FUR COLLAR CARDIGAN
SUN & SHADOW FAUX FUR COLLAR CARDIGAN
Fur, preferably faux, is always in season! This year, we’ve been finding it all over cardigans. Blame it on Game of Thrones, or perhaps blame it on the fact that it feels so gosh darn nice. Either way, we are loving the mini-cable knit of this sweater and large bold faux fur collar. You’ll demand attention no matter where you go in this Sun & Shadow sweater we found at Nordtrom.com.
COLD SHOULDER
Jonathan Simkhai Cold Shoulder Loopy Yarn Sweater
An off-the-shoulder hybrid, don’t let the name “cold shoulder” fool you. The cold-shoulder sweater can be incredibly cozy, as well as wildly chic. This lovely Jonathan Simkhai sweater co-mingles with the bell sleeve and fringe trend. We don’t mind the trend triplet. In fact, we’d love to pull on this one tonight! Skinny jeans and black patent leather stilettos; that’s one hot number!
