It’s been such a long winter and drab spring, and I am practically ready to chug rosé, as you can see. So, I was super-duper happy when Post Road Liquors recommended a beautiful bottle of a new vintage rosé from Peyrassol for Wine Wednesday. Peyrassol – 2018 “La Croix des Templiers” IGP Méditerranée Rosé

COST – $12.99

GRAPE – Equal parts  Grenache and Cinsault and 2% Viognier

COUNTRY – France

REGION – IGP Cotes De Provence

TASTING NOTES – Classic pale-salmon in color with a silvery streak, it deftly balances bright acidity, clean and succulent fruit, and a subtle saline component which befits its Mediterranean origins.

TALES FROM A TASTING

Peyrassol makes delicious Provence rosés. What makes this one so exciting is the price-point. At well under $15.00 a bottle, you should consider driving over to Post Road Liquors and buying a case for this upcoming long weekend. And after that, head over to Wasik’s cheese shop in Wellesley and pick up this Garrotxa goats milk cheese. With a few olives, breadsticks, and a fancy wide-brim sunhat, you’ll swear you are in the Mediterranean. At least I did.

I found the cheese and wine pairing highlighted the nice light fruity side of the wine; but, nothing obnoxious. Over four hours of eating cheese while catching up on chores, I finished the bottle. Amazingly, I didn’t have a headache the next day. (Another reason I will grab this wine again.)

The Peyrassol La Croix des Templiers is a new vintage from the Domaine that was founded in the early 1200s by the Knights of Templar! You would think after making wines for a few centuries shy of a millennium, and they would know how to make an exceptionally moderately priced rosé that tastes good! Good job, guys! Trust me, if you like rosé – by this wine! It’s bright and easy – just what we need this time of year.
