I recently took a quick trip to the Caribbean – in Plymouth. Hey mon, what can I say? That’s the way it felt at The Blue-Eyed Crab Caribbean Grill & Rum Bar!
The vibe was fantastic. Mellow Reggae flowed through the brightly decorated area, making it feel more like a pop-up island shanty bar, than a Cape Cod eatery. And, if you weren’t hungry before you walked in, you definitely were once the delightful aromas pulled you over to a bar seat, so you could peek at the creative flavor marriages sizzling on the open griddle.
The bar is definitely where you want to be at this place. They have a gorgeous set up of garnishes and fresh ingredients for a lively (and tasty) cocktail list. I had a nice and sunny drink- the Pear and Cilantro Margarita. If you dig cilantro and margaritas, order up this puppy with salt.
Honestly, it was so hard to choose from the menu. So many different options, with fun flavor combos. (I wish they served tapas.) So, when in doubt, I always ask the wait staff. A chill, but attentive bartender made a few suggestions. I decided to start with a cup of crab bisque. I’m a sucker for any type of bisque- hello cream-based soup! Besides the deliciousness implied by the word bisque alone, a few heaps of crab on top sold me on it being a must have. Next, I had what I was told was one of the best sandwiches on the South Shore, the Jibarito Plaintain Sandwich. Crispy plantains substitute as bread, in between jerk chicken, haganero aioli, pickled red onions, avocado, greens and farm cheese melt together perfectly.
Perhaps one of the best surprises was complimentary hot corn bread and butter! Try dipping it into the crab bisque for a pure delight!
Thumbs up to the Blue Crab and thumbs up to Plymouth! The other fun surprise is that the Blue Crab is nestled in between dozens of cute little shops just a few stones away from Plymouth beach. Definitely a must for all Cape Cod and south shore mamas this summer!
Keep on Jamm’n Haute Mamas!
Jess 🙂
