For those of you who aren’t “in-the-know” in the Boston arts scene, Boston Ballet Soloist Lawrence Rines is quickly becoming a star.
With his raw talent and endless drive, Lawrence is continuously jumping and reaching the next level, both literally and figuratively. If you’ve seen Lawrence out and about, you’re probably familiar with his supermodel air, complete with the sassy side glare and fabulous clothes.
But here’s where Lawrence excels, after he gives good face, he follows up with a gigantic smile and warm hug. Lawrence has open arms for anyone who shares the lets-be-kind vibe. You would never know he’s entered into one of the most grueling times of the year for a ballet dancer.
Many are unaware of the exhausting practice and performance schedule the company endures this time of year. It is that rigor and passion that make Boston Ballet Mikko Nissinen’s The Nutcracker one of the most beloved holiday traditions in New England.
Given how busy Lawrance is, we were THRILLED to steal a few minutes from this mega talent and ask his thoughts about Boston, food, and fashion!
Five Questions with Lawrence Rines
1. Which of this season’s Boston ballet’s performances had you most excited for and why? The Revolution program! George Balanchine, William Forsythe, and Jerome Robbins are my favorite choreographers. To perform a program with works by all three of them on the same night is an artistic dream come true.
2. Where can we find you in Boston when you are not wowing crowds with your performances on the Boston Opera House stage?
Either at a bar/restaurant gabbing with my friends or at home playing video games while my cat swats at the TV.
3. What Boston restaurant dish do you crave regularly?
The Foccacia from Fox and the Knife. Obsessed!
4. So many beautiful buildings make up our lovely little city of Boston. Is there one in particular where the architecture has captured your heart?
The Isabella Gardner Museum. Even after living in Boston for almost 11 years, it still takes my breath away.
5. What designers are you wearing right now?
Dries Van Noten and Sies Marjan. Dries is the master of prints, colors, patterns, and layering. I usually wear something of his every day. Sies is the perfect mesh of comfort, fun, and high fashion. I have at least three pairs of his belted wide-leg pants.
